“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also,” (Matt. 6: 19-21).
Where is your heart? Is it in the world or in the Kingdom? If you are like most Christians, there is a part of your heart that lies in both worlds. We want our whole heart to be with Jesus in the Kingdom; but the necessities of the world, the distractions of the world, and the desires of the world keep a part of our heart firmly rooted in the world. A correct Episcopal understanding of this struggle is that we are in the world, but not of the world; but even so, the temptations are enormous, the times we fall are many, and our focus often wanders out of the spiritual realm.
Welcome to the Holy Season of Lent. The Season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and continues until Easter Sunday. It is a time to refocus, rekindle, recommit, restructure, repent and return to the Lord, all in an effort to be reborn on Easter. The sacrifice and spiritual disciplines of Lent are designed to further remove the part of your heart that is embedded in the world and implant it in the Kingdom. One of your Lenten disciplines might be to reexamine your pledge to our Celebration of Stewardship or if you are new to the parish and have not yet filled out a Pledge Card, to make a commitment to the ministry of Jesus Christ as it is revealed to Trinity Parish. Perhaps you are being called to give up something in order to further the world of Christ in the world. Take this opportunity and this Holy Season to purify your heart through the Mission Statement of Trinity Parish: To love and serve God more faithfully; to know Christ more fully; to make Him better known to others through the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Your pledge is your response to the grace and mercy God has given you through the blessed passion, precious death, and mighty resurrection and glorious ascension of His Only Son, Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. It is your Almighty Thank You Card to the One Who has created you, saved you, sanctifies you, and continues to bless you abundantly.
Thank you for supporting the ministry of Jesus Christ as it is revealed at Trinity Parish. When you consider the numerous ministries that are constantly growing at Trinity, especially our Children’s Ministries and our Outreach Programs, our hope is that your attitude of gratitude will be moved to the next level in the hope that we will one day inherit the Kingdom. Trinity Parish must continue to be a lighthouse of God’s grace and mercy to the people of St. Augustine. Each pledge is important. Your pledge is important. Your pledge can help transform lives through the Holy Spirit. There is no greater purpose in life.
Faithfully in Christ,
Trinity’s Stewardship Committee
